Robert Burnside

Lodge Piper

Mobirise

Bro. Robert Burnside has been a member of our Lodge since his initiation in 1974. Installed as Lodge Piper later that same year he has remained in that Office for 45 years.  He has piped in every new RWM at their installation ceremony, as well as performing at every Burns Supper, PGL visitation and any major event and some regular meetings along the way.

He is by far our longest serving Office Bearer and has held it with distinction.  His efforts to Freemasonry even saw him being awarded the rank of Honorary Provincial Grand Piper in 2009.

He has recently been forced to take the hard decision to cease playing the pipes. This is a personal wrench for him but he does so under Doctors orders.

As such on Tuesday, 26th February 2019, RWM, Bro. Graham Young presented Robert with a plaque as a small token of the enormous appreciation we owe to him.  A true gentleman and Mason it is a sad loss that his playing will no longer be heard within our halls but his place in our Lodge history and hearts is well assured and well deserved.

On 14th December 2019 Bro. Burnside was installed as Depute Master serving at the right hand of RWM Bro. Adam Beesley.  This gave him his only other office outside of Piper.  However, his tenure as Lodge Piper remains unbroken as he held both offices simultaneously.
